Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you wanted to know about Eloping in Southern California
What Is an Elopement?
An elopement is an intimate wedding that focuses on what truly matters: two people making a lifelong commitment to each other. While elopements were once thought of as couples secretly running away to get married, today’s elopements are completely different. Modern couples choose to elope because they want a meaningful, stress-free wedding experience without the pressure, expense, or complexity of planning a large traditional wedding.
An elopement can be as simple as just the two of you exchanging vows or include a small group of family and close friends. Whether you dream of getting married on a beautiful Southern California beach, at a charming wedding chapel, in a peaceful park, or at a location that’s special to your relationship, an elopement allows you to celebrate your love in a way that feels authentic and personal.
At Elope Today, we believe your wedding should be about your love story, not the size of your guest list.

Elope Today is Southern California’s premier elopement service, helping couples enjoy beautiful, intimate weddings without the stress of planning a large event. Our goal is simple: to help you spend less time worrying about logistics and more time celebrating one of the happiest days of your life.
Can We Elope Today?
Absolutely! One of the reasons Elope Today was created was to help couples who want to get married without waiting months for a traditional wedding. While availability depends on our officiants’ schedules, your preferred location, and whether you already have a California marriage license or qualify for our marriage license service, same-day and short-notice elopements are often possible.
Whether you’ve just become engaged, are visiting Southern California on vacation, are preparing for military deployment, or simply woke up and decided today is the perfect day to say “I do,” we’ll do everything we can to make it happen.
The sooner you contact us, the more options we’ll have available, but don’t let a short timeline stop you from reaching out. You might be surprised how quickly we can help turn your dream into reality.
How Quickly Can We Get Married in California?
California is one of the easiest states in the country to get married. Once you have a valid California marriage license, you can get married immediately—there is no waiting period.
Many couples are able to obtain their marriage license and have their wedding ceremony on the very same day. If you qualify for our marriage license service, the process can be even more convenient.
Whether you’re planning weeks ahead or looking for a last-minute ceremony, Elope Today specializes in making the process simple, efficient, and enjoyable. We’ll help guide you through each step so you know exactly what to expect.
Can We Get Married the Same Day We Contact You?
In many cases, yes! We specialize in helping couples plan same-day and last-minute weddings throughout Southern California.
If an officiant is available and you have a valid California marriage license—or qualify for our marriage license service—we can often arrange a ceremony the very same day. Whether you’d like to get married on the beach, at our wedding chapel, in a park, at your hotel, or another meaningful location, we’ll work quickly to make your wedding happen.
Even if it’s late in the day or you’ve never planned a wedding before, don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll explain your options and help you find the fastest and easiest path to getting married.
Why Do Couples Choose to Elope?
Every couple has their own reason, but one thing is always the same: they want their wedding to focus on their love instead of the stress of planning a large event.
Some couples choose to elope because they prefer an intimate ceremony with just the two of them. Others want to save money, avoid family drama, or simply begin their married life without spending months organizing a traditional wedding. Many are traveling to Southern California and dream of exchanging vows on the beach while enjoying a memorable vacation.
Eloping also gives you the freedom to celebrate your wedding your way. You can choose a breathtaking location, personalize your ceremony, invite only the people who matter most, and create a day that truly reflects your relationship.
At Elope Today, we’ve learned that some of the smallest weddings often create the biggest memories.
Is Eloping Legally Recognized?
Yes. An elopement is every bit as legal as a traditional wedding, provided you meet California’s legal requirements.
You’ll need a valid California marriage license, an authorized Wedding Officiant to perform your ceremony, and the completed marriage license must be properly signed and returned for recording. Once those steps are completed, your marriage carries the same legal recognition as any other wedding.
The size of your ceremony has absolutely no impact on the legality of your marriage. Whether it’s just the two of you or a small gathering of family and friends, your marriage is equally valid under California law.
Is an Elopement Considered a Real Wedding?
Absolutely!
An elopement isn’t “less than” a traditional wedding—it’s simply a different way to celebrate one of life’s most important milestones.
Your wedding isn’t defined by the number of guests, the size of the reception, or how much money you spend. It’s defined by the promises you make to one another and the commitment you’re choosing to share for the rest of your lives.
Many couples tell us that because there are fewer distractions, they remember every word of their ceremony and every emotion they felt. In many ways, an elopement creates an even more personal and meaningful wedding experience.
How Is an Elopement Different From a Traditional Wedding?
The biggest difference is simplicity.
Traditional weddings often involve months of planning, large guest lists, formal receptions, and numerous vendors. While those celebrations can be wonderful, they aren’t the right fit for every couple.
An elopement focuses on the ceremony itself—the moment you become married. It allows you to spend your wedding day enjoying each other rather than managing a schedule or entertaining hundreds of guests.
Many couples choose to celebrate afterward with a romantic dinner, a weekend getaway, or a small gathering with family and friends. Others plan a larger celebration later while keeping the wedding ceremony itself intimate and personal.
There is no right or wrong choice. The best wedding is the one that reflects who you are as a couple.
Can We Still Have a Beautiful Ceremony If We Elope?
Without question!
One of the biggest misconceptions about eloping is that the ceremony has to be quick or impersonal. In reality, many of the most heartfelt ceremonies we’ve ever performed have been intimate elopements.
Your ceremony can include personalized vows, ring exchanges, meaningful readings, religious or nonreligious elements, family traditions, unity ceremonies, music, and anything else that reflects your relationship.
Whether you’re standing on a quiet beach at sunset, surrounded by nature in a local park, celebrating in our charming wedding chapel, or exchanging vows at a place that’s meaningful to you both, your ceremony will be uniquely yours.
At Elope Today, we believe that every couple deserves a ceremony that feels personal, memorable, and unforgettable—no matter how many guests are in attendance.
Absolutely. I actually think this reads much cleaner on a website without citations. Here’s a polished version:
Can You Issue Our California Marriage License?
Yes! One of the things that makes Elope Today unique is that we can assist qualifying couples by issuing a California Confidential Marriage License. This means many couples can take care of both their marriage license and wedding ceremony in one convenient appointment, saving time and eliminating the need to visit the County Clerk’s office.
If you don’t qualify for a Confidential Marriage License, don’t worry. We’ll explain your options and guide you through obtaining a Public Marriage License directly from any California County Clerk’s office. Our goal is to make the entire process as simple, convenient, and stress-free as possible.
Do We Need a Marriage License Before Our Ceremony?
Yes. California law requires that you have a valid California marriage license before your wedding ceremony can legally take place. Your officiant cannot perform a legal marriage without one.
The good news is that obtaining a marriage license is usually a quick and straightforward process. If you qualify for our marriage license service, we may be able to issue your Confidential Marriage License during your appointment. Otherwise, you’ll simply obtain a Public Marriage License from a County Clerk’s office and bring it with you on your wedding day.
What Is the Difference Between a Public and Confidential Marriage License?
California offers two different types of marriage licenses: Public and Confidential.
A Public Marriage License is available to most couples. It requires at least one witness during the ceremony, and the marriage becomes part of the public record.
A Confidential Marriage License is available to couples who already live together as spouses. No witnesses are required, and the marriage record remains confidential. Only the married couple can generally obtain certified copies of the marriage certificate.
Many couples choose the Confidential Marriage License because it offers additional privacy and makes the ceremony even simpler. If you’re unsure which license is right for you, we’ll gladly help determine which option best fits your situation.
Can Out-of-State Couples Get Married in California?
Absolutely! You do not have to be a California resident to get married here.
Every year, couples travel from across the United States to exchange vows on Southern California’s beautiful beaches, scenic parks, luxury hotels, and charming wedding chapels. As long as you obtain a valid California marriage license, you can legally marry anywhere within the state.
Whether you’re planning a destination elopement or combining your wedding with a vacation, California is one of the easiest and most beautiful places in the country to get married.
Can International Visitors Get Married in California?
Yes! Couples from all over the world come to California to celebrate their wedding.
You do not need to be a U.S. citizen or California resident to legally marry here. International visitors simply need valid government-issued photo identification, such as a passport, and must meet California’s marriage requirements.
Our team has had the privilege of helping couples from dozens of countries create unforgettable wedding memories, and we’re happy to guide international couples through every step of the process.
What Identification Do We Need?
Both parties must present valid government-issued photo identification when applying for a California marriage license. A driver’s license, state-issued identification card, passport, or military identification are commonly accepted.
If either of you has been married before, you should also know the date your previous marriage ended. Some counties may request additional information depending on your circumstances.
If you have any questions about the identification you’ll need, simply contact us. We’re always happy to help before your appointment.
How Long Is a California Marriage License Valid?
A California marriage license is valid for 90 days from the date it is issued.
During those 90 days, you may get married anywhere within California. If the license expires before your ceremony takes place, you’ll simply need to obtain a new marriage license.
One of the great things about California is that there is no waiting period, so you can get married immediately after receiving your marriage license.
Can We Get Married the Same Day We Receive Our License?
Yes! California does not require a waiting period between receiving your marriage license and getting married.
Many couples obtain their marriage license and celebrate their wedding on the very same day. Whether you’re planning months in advance or deciding to elope at the last minute, we’ll do everything we can to make your wedding happen quickly and smoothly.
If you’re hoping for a same-day wedding, contact us as early as possible so we can coordinate your ceremony and discuss your options.
Can You File Our Marriage License?
Yes. After your ceremony, your Wedding Officiant will carefully complete your marriage license and return it to the appropriate County Clerk’s office for official recording.
This is an important part of the marriage process, and we’ll make sure it’s handled properly so you don’t have to worry about submitting the paperwork yourself.
How Do We Obtain Certified Copies Afterwards?
Once your marriage has been officially recorded by the county, you may order certified copies of your marriage certificate directly from the County Clerk or County Recorder.
Certified copies are commonly needed if you plan to change your name, update your driver’s license, Social Security records, passport, bank accounts, insurance policies, or other legal documents.
We’ll be happy to explain the process and let you know where to request your certified copies after your wedding.
I have one suggestion that will make this guide much stronger. Throughout the page, I’d stop referring to “our marriage license service” and instead say “our exclusive Marriage License Issuance Service.” It sounds more professional, it’s unique to your business, and it reinforces one of your biggest competitive advantages every time it’s mentioned.
These continue the same style and are designed to be informative, reassuring, and naturally optimized for SEO and AI search.
Can We Really Get Married Today?
Yes! One of the reasons Elope Today was created was to help couples who want to get married without months of planning. Depending on officiant availability and whether you already have a valid California marriage license—or qualify for our Marriage License Issuance Service—we can often arrange a wedding the very same day.
Whether you’re planning a spontaneous elopement, visiting Southern California on vacation, or simply decided today is the perfect day to say “I do,” we’ll do everything we can to make it happen. Just give us a call, and we’ll walk you through your options.
How Much Notice Do You Need?
The more notice you can provide, the better, but it’s certainly not required.
Some couples reserve their ceremony several months in advance, while others contact us just a few hours before they want to get married. We specialize in accommodating both planned and last-minute weddings.
The earlier you contact us, the more flexibility we’ll have with officiant availability, ceremony times, and locations. However, don’t let a short timeline stop you from reaching out. We’re known for making the impossible possible.
Do You Accept Last-Minute Weddings?
Absolutely! Last-minute weddings are one of our specialties.
Life doesn’t always happen according to a schedule. Whether you’ve just become engaged, are unexpectedly in town, have experienced a change in plans, or simply don’t want to wait any longer, we’ll work quickly to help you celebrate your wedding.
Our experienced team performs hundreds of intimate weddings every year and understands that sometimes the best decisions are made in the moment.
What If We Call on a Weekend?
That’s perfectly fine!
Love doesn’t take weekends off, and neither do we. We perform weddings seven days a week, including most weekends, when many couples prefer to get married.
Weekend appointments are very popular, so availability can fill quickly. If you’re planning a Saturday or Sunday ceremony, we recommend contacting us as soon as possible. If it’s a last-minute request, we’ll still do everything we can to accommodate you.
Can We Get Married on Holidays?
In many cases, yes!
We understand that holidays often bring families together, create memorable moments, or coincide with special anniversaries. Depending on officiant availability, we’re often able to perform ceremonies on many holidays throughout the year.
Because holidays tend to be in high demand, we encourage couples to contact us as early as possible. If you’re considering a holiday wedding, we’ll gladly discuss your options and help determine availability.
Are Evening Elopements Available?
Absolutely!
Many couples choose evening ceremonies because they love the romance of a sunset wedding or simply have work and travel schedules that make evenings more convenient.
Southern California offers breathtaking sunsets throughout much of the year, making evening beach ceremonies especially popular. Whether you prefer an afternoon, sunset, or nighttime ceremony, we’ll work with you to schedule a time that best fits your vision.
Can We Schedule an Early Morning Ceremony?
Yes!
Morning ceremonies can be incredibly beautiful, especially at the beach or in one of Southern California’s scenic parks. Early mornings often offer cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, softer lighting for photography, and a peaceful atmosphere that’s perfect for an intimate wedding.
If an early morning ceremony fits your schedule, we’ll be happy to help you plan the perfect start to your wedding day.
Do You Offer 24-Hour Appointments?
Yes. Elope Today offers appointments 24 hours a day by advance arrangement.
While not every time may be available on every date, we understand that every couple’s schedule is different. Whether you need an early morning ceremony, a late-night elopement, or something outside traditional business hours, we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
Our goal is to make getting married as convenient as possible, no matter when your special moment happens.

As your wedding day approaches, we’ll confirm all of the important details, answer any remaining questions, and make sure everything is ready for a smooth, stress-free ceremony.
On your wedding day, all that’s left for you to do is relax, enjoy the moment, and celebrate the beginning of your new life together.

Can We Elope in a Park?
Yes! Parks are one of Southern California’s hidden gems for intimate weddings.
Many local parks offer beautiful gardens, lakes, waterfalls, ocean overlooks, and peaceful natural settings that create a stunning backdrop for your ceremony. They also tend to be quieter than many beaches and often provide easier parking and accessibility for guests.

If you’re unsure whether your hotel allows ceremonies, we’ll gladly help you explore your options.
Can We Elope at Our Airbnb?
In many cases, yes!
An Airbnb can provide a private and relaxed setting for your wedding, especially if you’ve rented a beautiful home with ocean views, a backyard garden, or another scenic space.
Before planning your ceremony, we recommend confirming with your Airbnb host that weddings or small gatherings are permitted on the property. Some hosts have restrictions regarding events.
Once you’ve received approval, we’ll be happy to come to your Airbnb and perform a beautiful, personalized ceremony.
Can We Get Married at Our Home?
Absolutely!
Many couples choose to get married in the comfort of their own home or backyard because it’s personal, private, and meaningful. Home weddings create a relaxed atmosphere where you can celebrate with the people who matter most.

That’s one of our most frequently asked questions, and the answer really depends on the experience you’re looking for.
If you dream of dramatic cliffs and breathtaking ocean views, Malibu and Palos Verdes are excellent choices.
If you’re looking for wide sandy beaches and beautiful sunsets, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and Long Beach are wonderful options.
If you love charming coves, rocky coastlines, and incredible scenery, Laguna Beach and Dana Point are among Southern California’s most romantic locations.

After performing thousands of beach weddings over the years, we’re happy to help you choose the location that best matches your vision, guest count, and wedding style. Our goal is to make sure your ceremony is not only beautiful but also stress-free from beginning to end.
How Long Does an Elopement Ceremony Last?
Most elopement ceremonies last between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on the type of ceremony you choose and any personal touches you’d like to include.
Some couples prefer a short, simple ceremony, while others enjoy adding personalized vows, readings, family traditions, or a unity ceremony. Since every wedding is unique, we’ll work with you to create a ceremony that feels just right.
No matter how long your ceremony lasts, our goal is to make it one of the most meaningful moments of your life.
Can We Personalize Our Ceremony?
Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it.

Our experienced Wedding Officiants will work with you to design a ceremony that feels authentic, memorable, and perfectly suited to your style.
Can We Write Our Own Vows?
Of course!
Many couples choose to write their own vows because it allows them to express their love and commitment in their own words. Personal vows often become one of the most emotional and memorable parts of the ceremony.
If you’re not sure where to begin, don’t worry. We’ll gladly provide guidance, helpful tips, and examples to inspire you. If you prefer, you can also use our beautifully written traditional vows or combine them with your own personal promises.
There is no right or wrong way to exchange vows. The most meaningful vows are simply the ones that come from your heart.
Can We Include Religious Elements?
Yes. Your ceremony should reflect your beliefs and values.
Whether you’d like to include prayers, scripture readings, blessings, references to God, or other faith-based traditions, we’ll happily incorporate them into your ceremony.
Our team includes Wedding Officiants from a variety of faith backgrounds, allowing us to create ceremonies that are respectful, meaningful, and personalized to your beliefs.
Do You Perform Nonreligious Ceremonies?
Absolutely!
Many couples prefer a ceremony that focuses entirely on love, commitment, and the promises they’re making to one another without religious references.
Our nonreligious ceremonies are warm, heartfelt, romantic, and completely personalized. They celebrate your relationship while allowing you to express your love in a way that feels comfortable and authentic.
Whether you’re spiritual, secular, or simply looking for a modern ceremony, we’ll create one that reflects who you are as a couple.
Can We Have a Christian Ceremony?
Yes! We proudly perform Christian wedding ceremonies for couples from many different denominations.
Whether you’re looking for a traditional Christian ceremony filled with scripture and prayer or something more contemporary with subtle expressions of faith, we’ll work with you to create a ceremony that honors your beliefs.
Our experienced Christian ministers understand that every couple’s faith journey is unique, and we’ll help create a ceremony that’s meaningful, inspiring, and centered on God’s love.
Do You Perform Interfaith Weddings?
Yes. Love brings people from many different backgrounds together, and we’re honored to celebrate those relationships.
Our officiants have extensive experience creating interfaith ceremonies that respectfully honor both families and their traditions. Whether one of you is Christian, Jewish, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, spiritual, or comes from another faith tradition, we’ll work with you to create a ceremony that reflects your shared values while honoring your individual beliefs.
Our goal is to unite families in a way that feels inclusive, respectful, and meaningful for everyone in attendance.
Can We Include Family Traditions?
Absolutely!
Your wedding is the perfect opportunity to honor your family’s heritage and celebrate the traditions that are meaningful to you.
Many couples choose to include cultural customs, religious rituals, family blessings, candle lighting ceremonies, handfasting, coin ceremonies, sand ceremonies, wine ceremonies, or other symbolic elements that represent their backgrounds and values.
If there’s a special tradition you’d like to include, simply let us know. We’ll gladly help incorporate it into your ceremony in a way that feels natural and meaningful.
Can We Exchange Rings?
Of course!
The exchange of rings is one of the most cherished moments of any wedding ceremony. Wedding rings symbolize an endless circle of love, commitment, and the promises you’re making to one another.
If you’ve chosen to exchange rings, your officiant will guide you through this beautiful part of the ceremony. If you prefer not to exchange rings, that’s perfectly fine too. Every ceremony is personalized, and there is no requirement that you include a ring exchange.
Can We Include a Unity Ceremony?
Absolutely!
A unity ceremony is a wonderful way to symbolize two lives becoming one. Many couples choose to include a meaningful ritual as part of their ceremony, creating a lasting memory of their wedding day.
Popular unity ceremonies include a sand ceremony, unity candle, handfasting, wine box ceremony, tree planting, ring warming, love letters, rose ceremony, or other personalized traditions.
If you have a special idea in mind—or would like suggestions—we’ll be happy to help you choose a unity ceremony that reflects your relationship and makes your wedding even more memorable.
Can It Be Just the Two of Us?
Absolutely! In fact, many couples choose to elope because they want an intimate wedding focused entirely on each other.
Whether it’s just the two of you, the officiant, and a photographer, or simply the two of you exchanging heartfelt vows, your ceremony can be as private and personal as you’d like. There are no expectations, no pressure, and no large guest list to manage. Just a beautiful moment celebrating your love.
Can We Invite Guests?
Of course! Eloping doesn’t mean you have to be alone.
Many couples invite a few of their closest family members and friends to witness their wedding. Others choose a slightly larger gathering while still enjoying the simplicity and intimacy of an elopement.
Whether you’re inviting no guests, a handful of loved ones, or a small group, we’ll help you choose a location that comfortably accommodates everyone.
How Many Guests Can Attend?
That depends on the location you choose.
Some ceremonies are designed for just the two of you, while others can comfortably accommodate dozens of guests. Beaches, parks, private homes, hotels, and our Wedding Chapel all have different capacities and requirements.
If you’re unsure which location is best for your guest count, we’ll gladly recommend options that fit your vision while ensuring everyone has a wonderful experience.
Can Children Attend?
Absolutely!
Children are always welcome at your wedding if you’d like them to be part of your special day. Many couples include their own children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, or other young family members in the celebration.
Whether they’re walking down the aisle, serving as flower girls or ring bearers, participating in a family unity ceremony, or simply watching from the front row, children often make your wedding even more meaningful and memorable.
Can Our Parents Attend?
Of course!
Many couples choose to keep their guest list small while making sure their parents are there to witness one of life’s most important moments.
Parents often play a special role by walking a bride down the aisle, offering a blessing, participating in a unity ceremony, or simply sharing in the joy of the occasion. Whether you’re inviting both families or just a few loved ones, we’ll help create a ceremony where everyone feels included.
Can We Bring Our Dog?
Yes! We love including four-legged family members in wedding ceremonies.
Many couples choose to have their dog walk down the aisle, carry the rings, pose for photographs, or simply stand beside them during the ceremony. After all, pets are family too.
Some locations have pet restrictions, so we’ll be happy to recommend dog-friendly venues throughout Southern California and help you plan a ceremony where everyone—including your furry companion—can be part of the celebration.
Can Our Photographer Attend?
Absolutely!
You’re welcome to bring your own photographer, or if you haven’t chosen one yet, we’d be happy to recommend one of our trusted professional photographers.
Your wedding day will pass quickly, but your photographs will preserve those memories for a lifetime. Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony or a complete photo session afterward, beautiful images are one of the best investments you can make.
Can We Livestream Our Ceremony?
Yes!
Many couples choose to livestream their ceremony so family and friends who can’t attend in person can still share in the celebration from anywhere in the world.
Whether you use Zoom, FaceTime, Facebook Live, YouTube, or another streaming platform, we’re happy to pause briefly if needed and help ensure your remote guests feel included in your special day.
Can Someone Walk Me Down the Aisle?
Absolutely!
Even at an intimate elopement, many couples choose to include a traditional walk down the aisle. Whether you’d like to be escorted by a parent, grandparent, sibling, child, close friend, or anyone else who is meaningful to you, we’ll happily incorporate that special moment into your ceremony.
If you’d rather walk together or make your entrance on your own, that’s wonderful too. Your ceremony should reflect what feels most meaningful to you.
Can We Celebrate Afterwards?
Definitely!
One of the best things about eloping is that your celebration can be anything you want it to be. Many couples enjoy a romantic dinner, champagne toast, sunset walk on the beach, family gathering, or weekend getaway after saying “I do.”
Others continue the celebration with professional photographs, a reception with family and friends, or a honeymoon adventure. There are no rules. Your wedding day is yours to celebrate however you choose, and we’re honored to help you start that celebration with a beautiful, memorable ceremony.
Do You Offer Photography?
Yes! We offer professional wedding photography to beautifully capture your special day.
Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony for just the two of you or a larger celebration with family and friends, our photographers specialize in intimate weddings and elopements. They know how to capture not only the big moments like your first kiss and ring exchange, but also the genuine smiles, happy tears, and quiet moments that make your wedding uniquely yours.
Photography packages are available to fit a variety of needs, and we’ll be happy to help you choose the option that’s right for you.
Can We Hire Our Own Photographer?
Absolutely!
You’re welcome to bring your own photographer if you already have someone you know and trust. We’ll gladly work with them to ensure they have the opportunity to capture all of the important moments during your ceremony.
Our goal is to make your wedding as personalized as possible, and we’re happy to coordinate with your photographer so everything runs smoothly.
How Long Are Photo Sessions?
Photo sessions can be tailored to your wedding plans.
Many couples choose a ceremony with a 30-minute, one-hour, or longer photography session afterward. The amount of time you need depends on how many locations you’d like to visit, whether you’re including family portraits, and the type of images you hope to capture.
We’ll help you choose a photography package that allows plenty of time to enjoy your wedding while creating beautiful memories you’ll treasure for a lifetime.
What Should We Wear?
Wear whatever makes you feel confident, comfortable, and like yourselves.
Some couples choose traditional wedding attire with a gown and tuxedo, while others prefer a simple dress and suit, casual beach clothing, or even hiking boots for an adventurous ceremony. There are no rules when it comes to an elopement.
If you’re getting married on the beach, keep in mind that ocean breezes, sand, and uneven surfaces can affect your clothing and footwear. We recommend choosing outfits that match both your personal style and your location.
Most importantly, wear something that makes you feel amazing on one of the happiest days of your life.
Can We Change Outfits?
Yes!
Many couples choose to wear one outfit for the ceremony and another for their photographs. Others enjoy changing into something more casual after the ceremony or bringing additional accessories for a different look.
If you’d like to include multiple outfits, let us know while planning your photography timeline so there’s plenty of time built into your session.
What Time of Day Has the Best Lighting?
The most beautiful natural lighting is typically during the Golden Hour, which occurs shortly after sunrise and during the hour before sunset.
These times provide soft, warm, flattering light that creates stunning photographs, especially along the Southern California coastline.
Midday ceremonies can also be beautiful, particularly in shaded gardens, parks, or indoor locations. We’ll gladly help you choose the best ceremony time based on your location, season, and photography goals.
Can We Have Sunset Photos?
Absolutely!
Sunset is one of the most popular times for beach elopements, and it’s easy to see why. The warm colors, dramatic skies, and golden light create a breathtaking backdrop for your wedding photographs.
If sunset photos are important to you, we’ll help schedule your ceremony so there’s plenty of time afterward to capture those unforgettable moments as the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean.
Can We Take Photos After the Ceremony?
Of course!
In fact, many couples choose to spend time taking portraits immediately after exchanging their vows. Since the ceremony is over, you’re free to relax, celebrate, and simply enjoy being newly married.
Whether you’d like romantic beach photos, family portraits, scenic images around your venue, or a stroll along the shoreline, we’ll make sure there’s time to capture beautiful memories of your wedding day.
Can We Use Drones?
In some locations, yes.
Drone photography is subject to federal, state, local, and property-specific regulations. Some beaches, parks, and public spaces prohibit drones or require special permits, while private venues may have their own policies.
If you’re interested in aerial photography or video, let us know your location, and we’ll help determine whether drones are permitted and what options may be available.
Will You Recommend Photographers?
Absolutely!
Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with some of Southern California’s most talented wedding photographers. We’d be happy to recommend professionals who match your style, budget, and wedding location.
Whether you’re looking for classic portraits, candid storytelling, editorial-style images, adventurous beach photography, or something fun and creative, we can connect you with photographers who will beautifully capture one of the most important days of your life.
How Much Does an Elopement Cost?
One of the biggest advantages of eloping is that it can be significantly more affordable than a traditional wedding. Instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars on a large event, many couples choose to invest in an intimate experience focused on what truly matters, celebrating their love.
At Elope Today, we offer a variety of packages to fit different budgets and visions. Whether you’re looking for a simple ceremony with just the two of you or an elegant celebration that includes photography, flowers, and a beautiful location, we’ll help you find the perfect option.
Contact us for current pricing, and we’ll happily recommend a package that fits your needs.
Are There Hidden Fees?
No. We believe in honest, transparent pricing.
We’ll clearly explain what’s included in your package before you book, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. If there are optional services such as photography, flowers, permits, travel to certain locations, or specialty requests, we’ll discuss those with you in advance.
Our goal is to make planning your wedding simple, straightforward, and free from surprises.
What Is Included in Your Packages?
Our packages are designed to make planning your wedding as easy as possible.
Depending on the package you choose, services may include a Professional Wedding Officiant, a personalized ceremony, assistance with your marriage license, photography, beautiful ceremony locations, flowers, beach or chapel options, and filing of your completed marriage license after the ceremony.
Because every couple is different, we offer several package options and can also customize services to create the wedding that’s perfect for you.
Do You Require a Deposit?
Yes.
A retainer is required to reserve your wedding date, time, and Wedding Officiant. Once your reservation is confirmed, we’ll begin coordinating all of the details for your ceremony.
Because popular dates and times book quickly, we recommend reserving your wedding as soon as you’ve decided on your plans.
When Is the Balance Due?
The remaining balance is typically due before your wedding ceremony.
We’ll provide all payment details when you book, including your due date and any payment schedule that applies to your package. Our team will also send reminders, so you can focus on enjoying your wedding without worrying about paperwork.
What Payment Methods Do You Accept?
We accept most major forms of payment for your convenience, including major credit cards, debit cards, and other secure electronic payment methods.
If you have questions about payment options or need assistance completing your payment, our team is always happy to help.
What Happens If It Rains?
A little rain doesn’t have to ruin your wedding day.
Southern California enjoys beautiful weather year-round, but we always keep an eye on the forecast. If rain is expected, we’ll work with you to discuss the best options, whether that’s adjusting the ceremony time, selecting a nearby covered location, moving to our Wedding Chapel, or rescheduling if necessary.
Our goal is to make sure your wedding is beautiful, enjoyable, and as stress-free as possible, no matter what Mother Nature has planned.
Can We Reschedule?
Yes.
We understand that life is unpredictable and sometimes plans need to change. If you need to reschedule your wedding, simply contact us as soon as possible. We’ll do everything we can to accommodate your new date based on availability.
Our team is committed to making the process as smooth and flexible as possible.
What Is Your Cancellation Policy?
We understand that unexpected situations can arise.
Our cancellation policy is explained at the time of booking, including any applicable retainers or payments. If you have questions about your reservation, our team is always happy to discuss your options and help you understand your agreement.
We believe in treating every couple with fairness, kindness, and respect.
Do You Help Us Plan Everything?
Absolutely!
Planning weddings is what we do every day, and we’re here to guide you from your first phone call until the moment you say, “I do.”
We’ll answer your questions, recommend beautiful locations, explain the marriage license process, help you choose the right package, coordinate your ceremony, and offer trusted recommendations for photographers, flowers, and other wedding services.
Whether you’re planning months in advance or hoping to get married today, you’ll never have to figure it out alone. Our experienced team will be with you every step of the way, making the process easy, enjoyable, and stress-free so you can focus on celebrating your love.
We’re Flying into California. Can You Help Us Plan?
Absolutely! We help couples from all over the United States and around the world plan their Southern California elopement.
From choosing the perfect ceremony location to explaining the marriage license process, recommending hotels, photographers, restaurants, and local attractions, we’re here to make planning easy. Whether you’re visiting for a weekend or turning your wedding into a week-long vacation, we’ll gladly share our local knowledge to help you make the most of your trip.
Which Airports Are Closest?
Southern California is served by several major airports, making it easy to plan your trip.
Depending on where you’re getting married, the closest airports may include Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), Long Beach Airport (LGB), John Wayne Airport in Orange County (SNA), Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), or Ontario International Airport (ONT).
We’ll happily recommend the most convenient airport based on your ceremony location and travel plans.
How Many Days Should We Stay?
While many couples fly in and get married the same day or the following day, we recommend staying at least two to four days whenever possible.
This gives you time to relax after traveling, enjoy your wedding without feeling rushed, explore Southern California, and build in flexibility should your travel plans change. Many couples extend their stay into a romantic honeymoon and discover everything our beautiful coastline has to offer.
Can You Recommend Hotels?
Absolutely!
Whether you’re looking for a luxury oceanfront resort, a boutique hotel, a charming bed and breakfast, or a comfortable place to stay near your ceremony, we’d be happy to offer recommendations.
Since we perform weddings throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties every week, we’re familiar with accommodations in nearly every beach community and can suggest options based on your budget, location, and style.
Can You Recommend Restaurants?
Of course!
A romantic meal is the perfect way to celebrate your wedding day, and Southern California is home to incredible restaurants with ocean views, intimate patios, fine dining, and casual beachfront favorites.
Whether you’re looking for a candlelit dinner for two, a family celebration after your ceremony, or the perfect place to enjoy champagne at sunset, we’ll gladly recommend restaurants near your wedding location.
What Should We Bring?
We’ll provide you with everything you need to know before your wedding day, but in general, you’ll want to bring your valid photo identification, your California marriage license if you obtained one from the County Clerk, your wedding rings, and any personal vows or special ceremony items you’d like to include.
If you’re getting married at the beach, we also recommend comfortable footwear, sunglasses, sunscreen, and a light jacket if your ceremony is near sunset, as coastal evenings can become cool.
Can We Honeymoon Nearby?
Absolutely!
Many couples choose Southern California not only for their wedding but also for their honeymoon. After your ceremony, you can relax on beautiful beaches, explore charming coastal towns, visit wineries, enjoy world-class restaurants, take scenic drives along the Pacific Coast, or spend a few days at nearby attractions like Disneyland, Universal Studios, or Catalina Island.
Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a little of both, Southern California offers countless ways to begin your married life together.
What If We’re Arriving on a Cruise?
No problem!
We’ve helped many couples arriving by cruise ship celebrate their wedding while visiting Southern California. Whether you’re docking in Long Beach, San Pedro, or another nearby port, we’ll work with your schedule to create a beautiful ceremony during your visit.
If you’re on a tight timeline, we’ll help you select a convenient location close to the port so you can enjoy your wedding without feeling rushed.
Can We Get Married Before Boarding a Cruise?
Yes!
Many couples choose to begin their honeymoon by getting married just before their cruise departs. It’s a wonderful way to start your vacation already married and ready to celebrate.
We can perform your ceremony at a nearby beach, park, hotel, our Wedding Chapel, or another convenient location before you head to the cruise terminal. We’ll help coordinate the timing so your wedding day is relaxed, memorable, and stress-free.
Can You Meet Us at the Airport or Hotel?
Yes!
Our Professional Wedding Officiants regularly travel throughout Southern California and are happy to meet you at your hotel, resort, vacation rental, private residence, beach, park, or another location that’s meaningful to you.
While we don’t typically perform ceremonies inside airport terminals, we’re happy to meet you at a nearby hotel, scenic location, or another convenient venue shortly after your arrival. Our goal is to make getting married as easy and convenient as possible, wherever your Southern California adventure begins.
Do You Perform LGBTQ+ Weddings?
Absolutely!
Love is love, and we are honored to celebrate it in all its forms. Elope Today proudly performs weddings for LGBTQ+ couples and has had the privilege of marrying thousands of happy couples throughout Southern California.
Every couple deserves a ceremony that reflects their unique love story, values, and personalities. Whether you’d like a traditional ceremony, something modern and fun, religious or nonreligious, we’ll create a wedding that celebrates your relationship with warmth, dignity, and joy.
Everyone is welcome here.
Do You Perform Vow Renewals?
Yes!
A vow renewal is a beautiful way to celebrate your journey together and reaffirm the promises you’ve already made. Whether you’re celebrating your first anniversary, your fiftieth, overcoming life’s challenges, or simply wanting to say “I’d choose you all over again,” we’d be honored to help.
Vow renewals can be held on the beach, at our Wedding Chapel, in a park, at your home, or virtually anywhere that’s meaningful to you. Best of all, there’s no marriage license required since you’re already legally married.
Can Military Couples Elope?
Absolutely!
We’re honored to serve the brave men and women of our Armed Forces. We understand that military schedules can change quickly due to deployments, training, transfers, and leave schedules, which is why we do everything we can to accommodate military couples.
Whether you’re planning well in advance or need a last-minute ceremony before deployment, our team is here to help make your wedding simple, meaningful, and stress-free.
Can Senior Couples Elope?
Of course!
Love has no age limit, and some of the most beautiful ceremonies we’ve ever performed have been for couples finding love later in life.
Whether this is your first marriage, a second chance at love, or a celebration of a lifelong friendship that blossomed into romance, we’ll create a ceremony that honors your unique journey together.
Every love story deserves to be celebrated, no matter when it begins.
Can We Surprise Our Family Afterwards?
Absolutely!
Many couples choose to keep their elopement private and surprise family and friends afterward with exciting news, beautiful photographs, or a celebration once they return home.
Others enjoy an intimate ceremony first and host a larger reception later. There is no right or wrong way to celebrate your marriage. Your wedding should reflect what feels right for the two of you.
Can We Get Married If One of Us Doesn’t Speak English?
Yes!
Love doesn’t require speaking the same language, and neither should your wedding ceremony.
Our team has experience working with couples from around the world. We can often arrange bilingual officiants or help incorporate translations into your ceremony so both of you fully understand and enjoy every moment.
If you have specific language needs, simply let us know when you contact us, and we’ll do our best to accommodate them.
Can You Perform Bilingual Ceremonies?
Yes!
We proudly offer bilingual wedding ceremonies in several languages, allowing both you and your guests to fully participate in your special day.
Whether you’d like your ceremony presented in English and Spanish or another available language combination, we’ll work with you to create a ceremony that flows naturally and honors both families and cultures.
If you’re looking for a specific language, simply ask. We’ll be happy to discuss the officiants and language options available.

What Is Elope Today?
Elope Today is Southern California’s premier elopement service, helping couples enjoy beautiful, intimate weddings without the stress of planning a large event. For more than two decades, we’ve helped thousands of couples from California, across the United States, and around the world create unforgettable wedding experiences.
Whether you’re planning months in advance or hoping to get married today, our experienced team of Professional Wedding Officiants is here to make the process simple and enjoyable. We perform ceremonies at beaches, parks, hotels, private homes, wedding chapels, scenic overlooks, and countless other beautiful locations throughout Southern California.
Depending on your circumstances, we can also assist qualifying couples with their California marriage license, making it possible to complete nearly everything in one place.
Can We Book Online?
Yes! Booking your wedding with Elope Today is quick and easy.
You can submit an inquiry through our website at any time, and our team will promptly contact you to discuss your preferred date, time, location, and ceremony details. We’ll answer your questions, explain your options, and help you choose the services that best fit your wedding plans.
If your wedding is happening very soon, we recommend calling us directly for the fastest assistance.
What Happens After We Reserve?
Once you’ve reserved your ceremony, we’ll guide you through every step of the planning process.
You’ll receive confirmation of your booking, and we’ll begin coordinating the details of your wedding. If you haven’t already obtained your marriage license, we’ll explain exactly what you’ll need to do or determine whether you qualify for our Marriage License Issuance Service.
Where Can We Elope in Southern California?
One of the best things about eloping is that you’re not limited to a traditional wedding venue. Southern California offers an incredible variety of beautiful locations where you can exchange your vows.
Whether you dream of saying “I do” with your toes in the sand, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, beneath towering trees in a peaceful park, inside our charming wedding chapel, or at your favorite hotel, Airbnb, or private residence, Elope Today can help make it happen.
We’ve performed weddings throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties at beaches, parks, gardens, private homes, hotels, marinas, scenic overlooks, courthouses, and countless other meaningful locations. If you have a place that is special to your relationship, let us know. We’d love to help you celebrate your wedding there.
Can We Elope on the Beach?
Absolutely! Beach elopements are one of our most popular services and one of the reasons couples travel from all over the world to Southern California.
Imagine exchanging vows with the sound of the waves behind you, a gentle ocean breeze, and a breathtaking California sunset as your backdrop. It’s romantic, unforgettable, and surprisingly easy to plan.
We perform beach weddings throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties, including beautiful locations in Malibu, Long Beach, Palos Verdes, Redondo Beach, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Dana Point, and many other coastal communities.
Some beaches require permits or have restrictions on decorations, amplified sound, or guest counts. We’ll help you choose the perfect beach and guide you through any requirements so you can simply enjoy your wedding day.
Whether you’re looking for a lush garden, rolling green hills, towering trees, or panoramic coastal views, we’ll happily recommend some of our favorite park locations throughout Southern California.
Can We Elope at Your Wedding Chapel?
Absolutely! If you’re looking for a beautiful indoor ceremony, our charming wedding chapel in Long Beach is the perfect place to say “I do.”
Our chapel offers an elegant, intimate setting that’s ideal for couples who want a romantic wedding without worrying about weather, permits, or crowds. We also offer our beautiful Tropical Terrace, providing a private outdoor setting surrounded by lush greenery.
Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony for just the two of you or inviting a small group of family and friends, our chapel provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere where your love story can take center stage.
Can We Elope at Our Hotel?
Yes! Hotel weddings are becoming increasingly popular, especially for couples traveling to Southern California.
Whether you’re staying at a luxury beachfront resort, a boutique hotel, or a cozy local property, we’re happy to come to your hotel for your ceremony. Many hotels offer beautiful courtyards, gardens, terraces, rooftops, or scenic outdoor spaces that are perfect for an intimate wedding.
Whether you’re planning a simple ceremony in your living room, exchanging vows in your backyard, or celebrating at a family member’s home, our Wedding Officiants will come to you and help create a memorable ceremony that reflects your relationship.
Can You Come to Our Location?
Yes! That’s one of the things we do best.
Our Professional Wedding Officiants travel throughout Southern California to perform ceremonies wherever your love story takes you. Whether it’s a beach, park, hotel, private home, restaurant, yacht, scenic overlook, garden, or another meaningful location, we’ll do our best to meet you there.
If you’re unsure whether your chosen location is suitable for a wedding, simply let us know. We’ll gladly offer guidance and recommendations based on our years of experience.
What Are the Most Popular Elopement Locations?
Southern California offers countless beautiful places to get married, but some locations are especially popular with our couples.
Our favorite beach locations include Malibu, Laguna Beach, Dana Point, Newport Beach, Palos Verdes, Long Beach, and Redondo Beach.
For park weddings, couples love scenic gardens, ocean overlooks, and peaceful green spaces throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties.
Many couples also choose our charming Long Beach Wedding Chapel, luxury hotels, private homes, or meaningful locations where they shared a first date, became engaged, or created special memories together.
If you’re having trouble deciding, we’ll be happy to recommend the perfect location based on your style, guest count, and budget.
Which Beach Is Best for an Elopement?
That’s one of our most frequently asked questions, and the answer really depends on the experience you’re looking for.
If you dream of dramatic cliffs and breathtaking ocean views, Malibu and Palos Verdes are excellent choices.
If you’re looking for wide sandy beaches and beautiful sunsets, Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, and Long Beach are wonderful options.
If you love charming coves, rocky coastlines, and incredible scenery, Laguna Beach and Dana Point are among Southern California’s most romantic locations.
Every beach has its own personality, advantages, and permit requirements.
Your wedding ceremony should reflect your personalities, your relationship, and the journey that brought you together. Whether you’d like to share your love story, include meaningful readings, involve family members, add humor, or incorporate special traditions, we’ll help create a ceremony that’s uniquely yours.
Absolutely!

Helpful Things to Know About Eloping With Elope Today
Do we need a permit to get married on the beach in Southern California?
Yes, no, and maybe.
Many Southern California beaches allow small wedding ceremonies of up to 25 people without a permit when there is no large setup involved. This applies to most beaches we regularly work on.
Laguna Beach is the primary exception and does require a wedding permit for beach ceremonies. If you would like to elope in Laguna Beach, we can assist you with the required permits.
To get started, choose a beach location from our Beach Elopement page and submit the Availability Request form. Once we confirm your date, time, and officiant, you place the $200 retainer, complete the marriage license application, and your elopement planning begins.
How many people can attend a ceremony at Our Cute Little Wedding Chapel or Wedding Terrace?
Our Cute Little Wedding Chapel and Wedding Terrace can accommodate up to 30 guests, or just the two of you if you prefer a private ceremony.
This is one of the easiest ways to get married in Southern California. When you arrive, we can issue your marriage license on site, or you may bring one from the County Clerk’s office. We then perform your ceremony in the chapel or on the terrace. Most ceremonies take 30 minutes or less.
We can also assist with photos, either through our staff photographer or by taking photos on your smartphone.
Do you provide flowers, photography, or video for beach or off site elopements?
For beach elopements and other off site locations, Elope Today focuses on planning, officiant services, and marriage licenses. After you book your elopement, you will receive a confirmation email with a curated list of trusted, affordable local vendors for flowers, photography, and video.
Each vendor offers their own style and pricing, allowing you to choose what best fits your vision and budget.
Do you decorate the Wedding Chapel and provide photography there?
Yes.
For ceremonies held at Our Cute Little Wedding Chapel it is already decorated and on the Tropical Terrace, we decorate it with draping and amazing silk florals and can provide a photography package and upload the pictures to a secure online portal for you to view and download. We set it up to be styled to feel warm, welcoming, and wedding ready.
You can also bring your own photographer at no additional fee.
Are pets allowed at our elopement?
Well behaved pets are welcome at Our Cute Little Wedding Chapel.
Beach locations are more restrictive. While a few dog friendly beaches exist in Southern California, most beaches do not allow dogs, even for weddings. If having your pet present is important, we can help you explore pet friendly options such as the chapel, private homes, or backyard elopements.
Do we need witnesses?
It depends on the type of marriage license you have.
If you have a Confidential Marriage License, which we can issue to you, witnesses are not required.
If you have a Public Marriage License obtained from the County Clerk’s office, one or two witnesses are required to sign the license.
If needed, we can often provide witnesses.
Do we need blood tests to get married?
No. Blood tests have not been required in California for more than 25 years.
If you are a zombie, we still cannot legally marry you. At least for now.
Where can we elope in Southern California?
Almost anywhere that is meaningful to you.
Elope Today performs elopements on the beach, at Our Cute Little Wedding Chapel, in private homes, backyards, parks, gardens, and other approved locations throughout Southern California.
If the location is legal and accessible, we can usually make it happen.
Can we get married the same day?
Yes, in many cases.
Because we can issue confidential marriage licenses and provide officiants, same day elopements are often possible. Availability depends on the date, time, and location.
Do you offer religious and non religious ceremonies?
Yes.
We perform religious and non religious wedding ceremonies. Ceremonies can be traditional, spiritual, secular, or customized to reflect your beliefs and values. The tone and style are always guided by the couple.
What are your hours?
All elopements and ceremonies are by appointment only.
We perform weddings year round, including weekends and holidays, based on scheduled availability. Once your appointment is confirmed, we dedicate that time exclusively to you.
If you have additional questions about eloping in Southern California, we are always happy to guide you through the process. Eloping should feel simple, meaningful, and stress free, and that is exactly what Elope Today is here to provide.
